DEDICATIONS & THANK YOU:
This album is called Family Business, so we’d like to dedicate it to our “founders,” and by that we mean our grandparents. Our Grandma Goldie, who passed away just a few months ago, was an art teacher and an avid mandolin player. Our Grandpa Norman, who passed away long before our first ever official gig, was an entrepreneur who started an electronics company and had a passion for the intersection of creativity, education and science. Our Grandma Ann, who passed away shortly before the release of our second album, Living Room (which we dedicated to her), was a talented singer and actress, a voracious reader, and always the star of the show, even when the audience was just her family. And last but not least, our Grandpa Lee, who just celebrated his 92nd birthday and lent some words of wisdom to our album’s final track, was a professional saxophone and clarinet player before beginning a long career in business. We are so thankful to have learned from them (and from our parents who they raised) how to build a bond with loved ones over a shared interest in creativity and storytelling — in essence, how to start our family business. But most of all, we are thankful that Lee changed his last name to Lawrence, otherwise this band would have been called Lipshitz.
Using a different interpretation of “founders,” we’d like to thank our bandmates and their families (the Cohens, the Karshes, the Askins, the Beckers, the Kohs, the Langers). We recently surpassed ten straight years with this exact group of eight. It’s rare that any eight-person organization, let alone a touring band, stays perfectly intact for so long (especially without hating each other!), and while we’re proud of much of what we’ve accomplished, this might be the thing most worthy of celebrating.
In addition to those mentioned above (and those credited above), we’d like to thank:
Mom, Dad, Linus, Zach, Arianna, Sara, Leo P, Emily, Joe, Ken, JZ, Jeff, the entire Bellion family, Louis, Dan & The Lakeside team, James & Guy, Alex & Weston, Chris & Ailie, Dean Stanke, Pete Vall, Richie Cannata, Leo G, Nathan, Veronica, Bri & Jon, Schadrack, Rebby, Devon, Negah, Myles, Kevin Conway, Maxim, Dean, Brian N, Ben, Rachel, Zoe, Hugh Johnson, Ryan Smith, Brian Giggey, Kristin Garcia, Rae, Jade, Marisa, Mimi, Phyllis, Jacob Collier, Chris Fitz, Cody, the Jareckis, Tucker, the Napolis, Zeve, Matt Baluyot, Steph Sherry, Amy Klobuchar, all of the members of our actual extended family, and of course, our beloved and recently retired van, Vandy Newman.
Lastly, we want to thank arguably the most important members of our organization — you! Thank you for listening, coming to shows, and helping to build this weird little community into what it has become. Welcome to the Family Business. You’re already in this. So go make yourself at home.
